Broad River Announces 3rd Annual Hoops & Dreams Event with Beds for Kids & the Charlotte Hornets

Broad River Furniture, a licensee of Ashley HomeStore, and the Charlotte Hornets will once again partner with Charlotte non-profit Beds for Kids for its third annual “Hoops and Dreams” event at Spectrum Center (formerly known as Time Warner Cable Arena) tomorrow.

Charlie Malouf, Broad River’s President and CEO, stated, “Our team is looking forward to bringing an afternoon of entertainment to these children and most especially, to providing them with the invaluable gift of a good night’s sleep to be healthy and well rested in order to pursue their life’s dreams. We are especially grateful to Tempur Sealy, Ashley-Sleep, GBS and Bedgear for their product donations, and to the Hornets event team and McAlister’s Deli for their contributions in making this a memorable afternoon. This is an event we eagerly anticipate every fall, and our associates sign up early to volunteer. Beds for Kids is our Company’s community service partner, and our Hoops and Dreams is our annual capstone event.”

The Saturday event provides a unique, fun and engaging experience for the selected children. Participants will receive lunch courtesy of McAlister’s Deli, watch a dunk show by Super Hugo, and
participate in a basketball clinic with Hornets Hoops coaches and a dance clinic with the Honey Bees. While the children are at the arena, Beds for Kids and its volunteers will deliver new beds, donated by Ashley HomeStore, along with a sheet set, pillow, blanket and mattress protector to surprise the children when they return home. Hornets forward/center Frank Kaminsky will be on hand to help with the basketball clinic and bed reveal.

“Beds for Kids is excited to be a part of Hoops and Dreams again. This is the type of event that not only helps with the physical needs of the children who do not have a bed, but also helps to build self-esteem and community for all involved. We are grateful for the all of the time and effort the Hornets and Ashley HomeStore teams have put in to make this a day to remember for all of the kids,” said Daniel Fogarty, Executive Director, Beds for Kids.

One hundred children (ages 3 to 17) accompanied by their parents will attend the event, and over forty Ashley HomeStore volunteers will be on hand to greet and accompany them through all the clinics and activities with Hugo, Super Hugo and the Honey Bees.

“We’re excited to partner with Ashley HomeStore and Beds for Kids once again this year,” said Hornets President & COO Fred Whitfield. “This is an outstanding event that the kids enjoy greatly, and it is especially rewarding to see their reactions at the conclusion when they find out about their new beds.”
